Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that provides beautiful smiles comfortably and quickly. Instead of relying on rubber bands, brackets, or wires to reposition teeth, Invisalign uses clear, custom-crafted mouthpieces.
The mouthpieces fit snugly over your smile, putting slight pressure on your teeth and alveolar bone. Over time, this pressure causes your teeth to gradually shift into the proper position, restoring balance and symmetry to your smile.
Regal Dentistry uses Invisalign to correct various alignment issues, including:
You might also benefit from Invisalign if your teeth are crowded or overlap one another.
Invisalign treatment begins with an in-office consultation at Regal Dentistry. During the initial consultation, your dentist conducts an oral exam, reviews your dental health history, and takes digital X-rays to assess the position of your teeth and jaw.
Next, your dentist takes impressions of your teeth with the iTero® 5D intraoral scanner. The team uploads your scans to a computer-aided design (CAD) program that allows them to develop a custom treatment plan.
After mapping the step-by-step movements of your teeth and jaw, your scans are sent to a certified Invisalign laboratory. The laboratory creates your first set of clear aligners and delivers them to Regal Dentistry.
Throughout treatment, you wear each set of aligners 20-22 hours a day. Every two weeks, you return to Regal Dentistry and change into the next pair in the series.
The length of Invisalign treatment depends on the severity of your alignment issues, your individual treatment goals, and how closely you adhere to Regal Dentistry’s recommendations. Most people achieve a straighter, healthier smile within 6-12* months but treatment can sometimes take 18 months or longer. Make sure to follow your dentist’s instructions closely.
Invisalign treatment is safe and typically well-tolerated. Each time you transition to a new set of aligners, it’s normal to experience some mild soreness or throbbing, but any discomfort should subside within 72 hours. If you need to, take over-the-counter pain medication for relief.
